Who We Are
Emily Adcock
President
​Why did you choose audiology?
I chose audiology because I want to be able to provide one-on-one care hearing rehabilitation for people who struggle with communicating with their friends and loved ones. I also want to work with kids, and help them overcome the stigma of hearing assistive technology.
​
What are your audiology goals currently?
Pediatric vestibular disorders, learning how to navigate cochlear implant programming, and my research on the importance of educational audiology in California.

What is your favorite thing about the Sac State AuD program?
How close I feel to my classmates and how supportive my current course and clinic instructors are. We are getting a rare experience as the first cohort, and I am especially thankful for the support from Dr. Gaeta and my classmates.
If you could have a conversation with anyone (living or dead), who would you choose and why?
I'd want to talk to Beethoven, to ask about his experience with hearing loss and composing. I think it would be fascinating to learn how he felt and what he did to get through it in those times.
Bradley Kilgore

Why did you choose audiology?
I returned to school to study speech pathology but was diverted from my path after taking an audiology class. Learning about the anatomy and physiology of the auditory system, while discovering the important work that audiologists do, inspired me to choose this exciting new career.

What are your audiology goals currently?
To work in a medical facility that exposes me to as many aspects of the field as possible before choosing a more specific niche.
What is your favorite thing about the Sac State AuD program?
I love working in our state-of-the-art clinic and counseling patients from the local community. Relating my own experience with hearing loss to patients going through something similar has been incredibly rewarding.

If you could have a conversation with anyone (living or dead), who would you choose and why?
Mark Twain. I think he’d have a few good stories to tell.
Natalie Astleford

Why did you choose audiology?
I had many ear infections when I was younger. I want to take my personal experiences and help other children in the same situations have fun and exciting audiology appointments.
What are your audiology goals currently?
I want to work with as many pediatric patients as possible! Cerumen removal also looks fun.
What is your favorite thing about the Sac State AuD program?
I love the instant bond that each cohort has created. We are willing to support each other in any way that we can.
If you could have a conversation with anyone (living or dead), who would you choose and why?
I want to have a conversation with Dr. Derek Shepard, Dr. Meredith Grey, Dr. Christina Yang, and Dr. Lexie Grey. Pretty much anyone from Season 5 of Grey’s Anatomy.
Kimi Yee

Why did you choose audiology?
I chose audiology because I have personal experience going to an audiologist throughout my childhood and I wanted to help others hear, as well as feel heard in their hearing health journey.
What are your audiology goals currently?
It is so difficult to choose just one of the many areas of audiology. So, for now, my goal is just to soak in as much as I can in each setting that I am exposed to and figure out what I want to pursue post-graduation.
What is your favorite thing about the Sac State AuD program?
The faculty and my classmates. Our faculty work so hard to make sure we have everything that we need. My cohort has been through all of it together and I am blessed to have them by my side as friends and peers.
If you could have a conversation with anyone (living or dead), who would you choose and why?
I would want to have a conversation with my grandpa, who passed about 8 years ago. He was a very influential person in my life and someone that I strive to be like every day.
Talia Glenn

Why did you choose audiology?
I chose audiology because I really wanted to help veterans. I saw audiology as a great opportunity to help that population in a meaningful way.

What are your audiology goals currently?
To perform cerumen management (ear wax removal)! It's not for everyone, but I think it's really cool.

What is your favorite thing about the Sac State AuD program?
We have a really tight-knit group that works well collaboratively.

If you could have a conversation with anyone (living or dead), who would you choose and why?
I would want to have a conversation with Michelle Obama. I just think she's very wise, well read, and insightful.
Kasey Cain

Why did you choose audiology?
I came to learn about audiology after my son was born with hearing loss. I chose to change careers and pursue audiology because I found a passion for it after each appointment we attended. I feel my experience as a parent with a hard of hearing child can help the families I serve in my future career.

What are your audiology goals currently?
I am very interested in working with cochlear implants and pediatrics, but I am excited to continue learning and see what I enjoy the most!
​
What is your favorite thing about the Sac State AuD program?
The brand-new clinic! We get to see patients in a facility we can be proud of, and we offer services that can be hard to find, like testing for Central Auditory Processing Disorder.

If you could have a conversation with anyone (living or dead), who would you choose and why?
Anyone from The Golden Girls! I am a huge fan of the show and would love to split a slice of (vegan) cheesecake and talk about their time on the hit series.

Why did you choose audiology?
I chose audiology because I have a passion for helping individuals improve the quality of their life and stay connected with their loved ones.

What are your audiology goals currently?
To create a non-profit organization dedicated to providing free hearing aids to low SES hard of hearing individuals

What is your favorite thing about the Sac State AuD program?
Our Audiology Clinic! It is amazing being able to provide services to the public.

If you could have a conversation with anyone (living or dead), who would you choose and why?
My Grandfather. I would want to thank him for the hard work and resilience he demonstrated coming to this country with nothing and creating a foundation for my family here in America.
Bella Brown-Quigley

Why did you choose audiology?
My first introduction to audiology was for my own balance issues. After learning more, I fell in love with the field and haven't looked back.

What are your audiology goals currently?
To become a research audiologist. I want to gain clinical experience for the first few years of my career and then be part of a research facility. I think that having the clinician's perspective in research is crucial.
​
What is your favorite thing about the Sac State AuD program?
The variety of didactic and clinical professors. I don't think it's common to have such a variety of instructors with all sorts of experience.

If you could have a conversation with anyone (living or dead), who would you choose and why?
My paternal grandfather. He passed away when my dad was young and I would love to get to know him because he had such a huge impact on my dad who is one of my role models.

Why did you choose audiology?
I became interested in audiology after taking an introductory aural rehabilitation (AR) course in undergrad. AR has so many components and potential connections with other fields, and I enjoy getting to learn about how we can address the effects of hearing impairment in a variety of ways.
What is your favorite thing about the Sac State AuD program?
My favorite part of the Au.D. program is the people. Our students, staff, and faculty are here to educate, work with, and train future audiologists. Our patients and research participants can come to our new clinic for services and meet our students. Through SAA, we can reach more people like undergraduate students and community members who may be learning about audiology or the importance of hearing for the first time.
